The ability to listen is the foundation of all communication. Before children can learn to speak, they must be able to make sense of the sounds and words that surround them.
Listening, just like any other skill – from catching to counting – can be taught and developed. Listening is also fundamental to having proper two-way conversations – which is when the fun really starts!
The ability is to pay attention and concentrate is a closely related skill that needs to be mastered if a child is to see things through to completion, whether that’s playing a game, attempting a jigsaw or doing their school work. This is important for children to feel a sense of achievement
